Americans Turning to Fido & Fluffy to Ease Economic Woes
According to a survey by TRIPSwithPETS.com, 87% of American pet parents surveyed say that their pets help to ease the stress of economic woes.

Further, the TRIPSwithPETS.com survey indicates that 65% of pet parents are partaking in more activities with their pets to help clear their head and unwind. Don't leave Halloween goodies within reach of the family dog - they may contain xylitol, a common sweetener that can be toxic for canines.

Xylitol, an all-natural sugar substitute, is increasingly found in many human food products, especially chewing gum and candy. While xylitol is safe for humans, it can be deadly for dogs. Just two or three sticks of gum sweetened with xylitol can be toxic to a 20-pound dog.
Veterinary findings show that xylitol can cause hypoglycemia in dogs, which may be severe. Clinical signs of xylitol toxicity may develop just 30 minutes after ingestion and may include vomiting, ataxia (uncoordinated movements), lethargy, and seizures. Liver dysfunction and/or failure may also occur.
In cases of xylitol ingestion, a veterinarian should be contacted immediately. The ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (888) 426-4435 has excellent information in cases of xylitol ingestion and is open 24 hours a day; they may charge a $60 consultation fee.
Check Halloween loot! Dog caretakers are advised to look for xylitol in the fine print ingredient list of consumer products and to take extra care that their dogs do not have access to them. Make sure the holiday is safe for all family members – even the rascals with four legs.

Wanted: Hong Kong’s Serial Dog Killer
The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in Hong Kong and many other people including the dead dog owners are looking for a serial dog killer.
He has been killing dogs though out the last nineteen years with over one hundred dogs killed.
What would make a person do something like this, you read about many serial killers but a dog serial killer? To think that this has been going on so long in the same area is unbelievable that they haven’t caught the killer yet.

Caroline understands the financial constraints that many Animal Shelters and Rescue Groups operate under, and has donated her web design service to the Georgia Shelter.
"The Dawson County Humane Society website displays many pictures of animals and shelter volunteers. It offers visitors information on how to donate wish list items or money. Volunteers and adopters can fill out their applications right on the website," said Bogart. "Every animal shelter website should raise animal visibility, accept donations and encourage visitors to volunteer for the shelters many jobs."
"We were desperately looking for someone who would help us with our site when we found Caroline Bogart," said Brenda Lee. "Caroline jumped in with both feet and immediately went to work to create a beautiful web site that represents our shelter so well," says Candy Adams, President of the Dawson County Humane Society.
"It is great to know there are still people like Caroline that are willing to help the forgotten animals of the world," said Kay Harris, Shelter Director. "We will never be able to thank her enough!"

A four year old girl named Kylie Haas from Shannon Park, AK life has changed when the parents got a service dog named Millie. The parents dreams had come true when they seen their daughters life change ever since Kylie and Millie have been together.
Bruce and Heidi Haas were able to get the dog though Pawsibilities Unleashed in Frankfort, Ky. with the help of some caring people that helped in a fundraiser.
It’s just amazing that a dog, yes a dog can help change one’s life with joy and companionship.

Owners Refuse To Take Their Lost Dog Back
Just because their dog had run away five times doesn’t mean that you disown him. That’s what a family from Spokane Valley, Texas said about their dog. Ruth Stalling was offered by Dr. Bill Trotter from the Bosque Animal Rescue Kennels in Clifton, Texas to have her dog brought back but she said No.
How do you just dump your dog like that, because he ran away while they were camping out in the woods. Maybe the dog got lost, that’s no reason to just dump the dog. I just don’t understand so people why they do things, it one thing if you are no longer to afford your pets and you bring them to a no kill shelter, but to dump them is really low.

What happens when you put troubled kids and troubled animals together? Well over at a special place called Gentle Barn in Santa Clarita, CA. that helps bring kids that have been abused or neglected from the Pacific Lodge Boys home together to be with the animals that are in the same situation of being lonely and neglected.
Rebecca Alegria who is the assistant director of development for the Pacific Lodge Boys Home said; Their program almost mirrors ours. We take in abused and neglected boys, and they do the same with animals.
Jay Weiner from the Gentle Barn said; You look in their eyes as they're petting or hugging that animal, and you see a completely different little boy than the one who arrived filled with anger and mistrust. Whether they're from broken or foster homes, or whether they are blind, deaf, physically or mentally challenged, the animals love them just the same.
Now that’s what I call sharing the love from within and bring the joy to some lonely kids and animals together.

That’s what the Bush administration wants to do by passing a new proposal to allow more then eighty percent of Wyoming to have a shot the Gray Wolf on site policy.

Ami Moore, The Chicago Dog Whisperer, joins PAWS Chicago's Junior Board as a way to support their mission to save homeless pets and provide low-cost spay and neuter services to the Chicagoland area. Ami Moore, The Chicago Dog Expert is a supporter of homeless pets and shelter animals such as dogs, cats and rabbits being spayed or neutered before they find their forever homes. "Altering animals that are homeless before they are released to new homes is a smart idea," says Ami Moore.

Ami Moore is seeing her dream come true one pet at a time through her own work as a dog behaviorist and dog therapist, and she believes strongly in the efforts of her neighbors at PAWS (Pets Are Worth Saving) Chicago. The organization’s mission is to stop the killing of homeless animals. Moore joined PAWS’ professional board in 2008.
“Without the support of people like you, PAWS Chicago would not be able to accomplish its mission,” a congratulatory letter read. As a member of PAWS’ professional board, Moore will assist in planning a variety of fundraising events which will have a direct impact on helping save the lives of thousands of homeless cats and dogs in Chicago.
In 2007, the PAWS Chicago Adoption and Humane Center was opened. The facility is the first cageless, no-kill shelter in the Midwest. “Their facilities are state-of-the-art – better than 95 percent of the homes that people in Chicago live in,” Ami Moore the Chicago Dog Whisperer says.
Animals at the PAWS adoption center live in “suites” and receive plenty of fresh air, exercise, toys, love and respect. Ami Moore believes the natural environment there is beneficial to both the animals and the individuals who are considering adopting a pet. In 2007, more than 1,600 animals found permanent, loving homes through the facility.
Due to the efforts of Ami Moore the Chicago Dog Whisperer, CASA-The Coalition of Animal Shelter Alliance, the Chicago Humane Society, the City of Chicago Animal Control and PAWS only slightly more than 400 animals were euthanized in the city of Chicago due to inability to find a home. Ami Moore the Dog Whisperer of Chicago says, “As far as I am concerned, Chicago has achieved the dream of being a no-kill city. In 2007, only slightly more than four hundred were euthanized in the entire city due to a lack of a home. I believe that we have the most impressive number of rescued animals in America. Chicago is the city that ‘Can Do and Does’.”
PAWS Chicago also operates the Lurie Family Spay/Neuter Clinic – the largest provider of free and low-cost spay and neuter surgeries for pets in the area. Last year, more than 14,000 surgeries were performed on the pets of Chicago-area families.
Most of those surgeries were performed for free for families who receive public assistance. “In 2008, our goal is to perform more than 16,000 surgeries, as spay/neuter is the only way to ensure the number of homeless pets killed each year continues to drop,” says Jessica Busch of PAWS Chicago.

Chained Dogs, What's Your Thoughts

I personally think it’s cruel to leave a dog out side chained up all day. The article talked about how a German shepherd that was chained up had become vicious and attacked two people.
So what’s your opinion about a dog being chained up all the time, do you think it makes them more protective and they become more vicious. Or do you think it doesn’t matter.

Bedroom.So Jim made his wife comfortable on the couch and left her to nap. Lucky stood by watching Mary but he didn't come to her when she called. It made Mary sad but sleep soon overcame her and she dozed.
When Mary woke for a second she couldn't understand what was wrong.
She couldn't move her head and her body felt heavy and hot. But panic soon gave way to laughter when Mary realized the problem. She was covered, literally blanketed, with every treasure Lucky owned! While she had slept, the sorrowing Dog had made trip after trip to the basement bringing his beloved mistress all his favorite things in life. He had covered her with his love.
Mary forgot about dying. Instead she and Lucky began living again, walking
further and further together every day. It's been 12 years now and Mary is
still cancer-free. Lucky? He still steals treasures and stashes them in his
Toy Box but Mary remains his greatest treasure.

Crazy Women Hog Ties Dog And Sent It On Fire
Photo by the Denver Post Yes I will call Tanya Martin from Lakewood, Colorado a crazy women for hog tying up her little Yorkshire Terrier named Bobo up and setting the poor dog on fire. This is so sick to even read about what she had done to the dog.
The dog had been burned over fifty percent of his body and his paws were coming off. They also said that the Bobo was in so much pain when he was brought into the Wheat Ridge Animal Hospital and if it wasn’t for the Fire fighters and medics the poor dog wouldn’t have had a chance.

Veterinarians Serving Pets of the Homeless
Carson City, NV, October 19, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Feeding Pets of the Homeless awarded grants to seven veterinarians to treat and vaccinate pets of the homeless in their communities.
Dr. Kevin Stoothoff, South Ocala Animal Clinic, Ocala, Florida will implement a pilot program in the area. “I am excited to apply for this grant. Our community, like so many others, has many homeless people, who are unable to afford veterinary care or pet food.” wrote Dr. Stoothoff.
His objective is to help the pets which belong to the indigent people of Ocala. He will be working with two local agencies, Brothers Keeper and Interfaith, giving professional examinations, vaccines and minor medical treatment to dogs and cats weekly.
Dr. Wolf’s Animal Medical Center, Dr. John E’Esopo of Dedham, Massachusetts, plans are to set up a clinic and if they find that there is a great unmet need for care of pets of the homeless they will attempt to have these clinics on a routine basis at a local homeless shelter. Their objective is to reach as many needy pets, providing them with physical examinations, updating them on their vaccinations, screening them for diseases that are of community health significance (canine heartworm disease, feline leukemia virus). They will also provide relief for minor problems such as skin issues, ear infections and they will be trying to educate pet owners and provide help with any questions or concerns about the health of their pets.
Animal Medicine and Surgery Clinic, Dr. Ronald Chaikin of Brooklyn, New York will be using the funds so that his clinic will not be forced to turn away approximately 40 animals a week due to financial difficulties of the homeless and low income families in the area. Low income housing and apartment housing projects in his area are extremely strict and require pets to be up-to-date on vaccinations and care, including a current Rabies vaccination and also must be spayed/neutered. This presents a hardship for many of these well-meaning families because they cannot afford to properly immunize and spay/neuter their pets as they are financially compromised.
“Many of these owners are elderly and alone and the only love and companionship they receive is from their pets.” wrote Dr. Chaikin.
Best Friends Veterinary Hospital, Dr. Suzanna Brown of Mays Landing, New Jersey will be working in conjunction with the Atlantic City Rescue Mission to hold a monthly clinic at the mission to give physical exams, rabies vaccinations, flea treatments, and grooming if necessary along with a collar and ID tag to pets of the homeless and those below the national poverty level in the area.
Grove Way Veterinary Hospital, Dr. Russell Hackler of Castro Valley, California has been treating a homeless woman’s dog that she rescued from a pit bull dog fighting ring. The neutered male canine has been suffering with a distressing case of yeast infection. If left untreated he would have passed away.
Dr. Lisa Levin, Spay Neuter Clinic in Phoenix, Arizona intends to provide wellness/preventive medical care in addition to minor medical/surgical care for an estimated population of 50-75 animals belonging to homeless individuals living at or very near to the downtown homeless shelter. The volunteers at the homeless shelter have offered their time to help and if necessary provide transportation to the clinic if more intense medical pet care is needed.

Dog Save From the Tracks
An engineer has helped save the life of a dog that is being called Choo-Choo from being run over by another train in North Braddock, Pennsylvania.
There is also a reward for twenty-seven hundred dollars out there for the arrest of this sick person.
It bad enough when we read about the abuse that owners do to their dogs or even the report of the puppy mill owners shooting all their dogs so they wouldn’t be fined.
So I wonder what would make a person take their dog to a train track and tie her up, knowing that the dog had only given birth to puppies recently. Do they think that the dog wouldn’t know what was going on, because the poor dog has the same sense and feeling as we do? I just wonder if the dog will one day find that person who had tied her up.
Trust me a dog will always remember a person by their scent that makes up our very own characteristic, just like we do with DNA.

From Lucky Dogs To Lost Dogs And Helping Dogs
Dogs are being kidnapped in the UK and one couple named Trevor & Michelle Deen was upset when they discovered that not only one dog, but nine of their dogs were stolen. Luckily they were able to get them back by the thief that stolen them.
Some advise is to have a microchip implanted or the old way is having your dog tattooed.

Ian Becker from the Southern Queensland has had enough of finding workers to work on his farm that he now has a team of dogs to do the work. Ian said that he wishes that the dogs knew how to drive the trucks and use computers.
That’s a laugh all right, it just shows that our buddies can do a lot more then people think they can.

For more of a laugh a Bloodhound named Rocky from Normandy Park, Wash. Who works for the police to help locate missing people was missing him self. They police even called out officers from other towns and a helicopter to help search for Rocky.
So after twelve hours of searching they finally found the dog. Now I think that’s funny, that the police dog escaped for a little R&R and it took the whole team to find him.
A Harborne based charity by the Friends of Animal Welfare with over 100 of the most pampered pooches was able to raise about fourteen hundred dollars for the local animal charities and fund care over in the UK.
Just a little note; There is a chemical called Permethrin that is used in flea treatment for dogs that will kill your cat.

Ok this dog’s name isn’t lucky but it needs to be changed to lucky because this dog survived jumping off a forty foot high bridge and walked away from the fall.

They also dedicated a walking path that was built by a local Boy Scout troop. It just shows that when everybody chips in we can make life a little better for our friends.

According to Dr. Lauren Chattigre, DVM, DVetHom, CVA, CVCP, Reiki Master, of the Cascade Summit Animal Hospital in West Linn, Oregon, openness to Reiki hinges on people’s acceptance of the unknown. “It’s just a question of people getting used to the idea, of people trying it and seeing the benefits. Change is slow, especially in scientific circles, you know. Acupuncture used to be not nearly as accepted as it is now. It’s just been a matter of time and trial and education and people trying it.”
For veterinarian Carolina Kliass of Sao Paulo, Brazil, it’s all a matter of letting people see the results Reiki can produce. In her private practice, Dr. Kliass uses conventional veterinary techniques in addition to Reiki, and occasionally flower essences and Homeopathy.
Dr. Kliass fondly remembers, one story of “a client I’ll never forget. It was a Boxer, she was 10 years old, who has since passed away. Each time Dr. Kliass visited the dog’s home for a Reiki treatment, “she turned and went to the special place that always we did Reiki. We always did Reiki there, or on the ground near the sofa or on the sofa. And she lay down and looked at me and said, ‘I’m here, work on me.’ It was so fun; she was amazing. She always respected the Reiki sessions; it was very nice. She was my darling. She was wonderful.”
Besides the warm emotional response the Boxer gave to Dr. Kliass during treatments, the dog responded well physically to treatments. “She had bone cancer, and the evolution was not so fast as was expected, because it’s a very aggressive disease, and it took more than a year until she passed away,” says Dr. Kliass. “And she was taking homeopathic remedies, too, but without Reiki, I think this period would be shorter, absolutely. A few months.”
Dr. Kliass believes the dog’s quality of life during her year of Reiki treatments was also enhanced: “This year period, she was great. She lived on a farm: a ranch, all hills up and down, and she walked all around with this cancer in her leg.”
Ms. Prasad will discuss what Reiki is, how it can support the animal patient in addition to what a typical Reiki treatment would be for an equine and canine patient. A preview of the upcoming Animal Reiki: The Basics and Beyond DVD will also be presented.

Macon County Mayor Holds Animal Shelter Hostage
You would think that in times like these a town wouldn’t be holding other towns hostage when it comes to fee’s charged at an animal shelter.
Well we have a Mayor named Robert Reichert from Macon County, Georgia that is trying to pull the stings on Bibb County with an increase in fee’s that are more then doubled the fee that has been charged for the last decade.
I thought that these shelters were there to help the unwanted or the abandon pets. Has this country gotten so bad that we forgotten the love for these animals. Most of the pets are in bad shape when they get to a shelter from either being under feed or abused. They go though some of the worst misfortune with their suffering of loneliness.

Well we have a Mayor named Robert Reichert from Macon County, Georgia that is trying to pull the stings on Bibb County with an increase in fee’s that are more then doubled the fee that has been charged for the last decade.
I thought that these shelters were there to help the unwanted or the abandon pets. Has this country gotten so bad that we forgotten the love for these animals. Most of the pets are in bad shape when they get to a shelter from either being under feed or abused. They go though some of the worst misfortune with their suffering of loneliness.

Is The Winner Of The Woman of the Year Awards In London All About Dogs
Well it’s really about three different woman that have been working on helping the pedigree dogs in the UK.
There will be Carol Fowler from the Wotton under Edge along with Beverley Cuddy the Editor of Dogs Today magazine and Jemima Harrison who was the director of Pedigree Dogs Exposed.
So will this years honor go to Carol Fowler for all the work she has put into her research about the disease called Syringomyelia in Cavalier King Charles Spaniels due to all the inbreeding. Carol has lobbied so hard to help the cause for better breeding of these dogs that now after the Pedigree Dogs Exposed showed on BBC.
Today the breeders and kennel club agree that more needs to be done.

If you are going to do a movie about Rin Tin Tin you could at least use one of the real dogs from the breed line.
The first Rin Tin Tin started back in 1918 when the dog was found in a kennel that was bombed out during the war in France that later became a hit in the movie in the nineteen twenty’s. So today with the breed line still going the owner named Daphne Hereford is suing the LA Company First Look Studios Inc. and four affiliates for using a phony dog that wasn’t from the real blood line.
I would agree with Daphne on her cause to show these producers need to think first before they try and ripe the public off with some fake dog.

Jennifer Aniston & Norman Her Dog

Theirs one lucky dog named Norman who is owned by a wonderful actress named Jennifer Aniston. Norman travels all over with Jennifer and now he has his own therapist that performs massages along with Reiki and acupuncture treatments. Not bad for a dog.
The real reason for the therapy is that Norman has been suffering with aching joints and stiffness, I guess from laying around while Jennifer is on set filming.

Mars Petcare Closes Their Manufacturing Plant In Everson, Pa.
I guess it was easier to close their plant that had a recall of their pet food recently then to try and better it’s self by trying to produce a high quality and safe dog food.
So the question is where are they going to product their pet food now? Will it be in some foreign country that has no real safety regulations? I don’t know about you, but I would have made that plant a top notch manufacturing plant and show the world that they really care for our pets instead of just walking away and leaving their employees with out a job.
Can we be sure that their food will be safe?
So how do we show this company that we are not going to take this,
maybe we start a ban on buying their products.

Yes There Is Bad News Too
Fake Shelter Scam Hits PA
It’s bad enough that animal shelters are looking for all the donations that they can get these days. Well over in Pennsylvania the Latrobe Action For Animals Humane Society has been being scammed by someone who is using their name and logo for a fake web site.
How low can you get when you try and take away a life from a pet animal. I hope they catch this lowlife.

Treasurer Embezzled Funds For Animal Shelter
The Humane Society for Newton and McDonald counties in MO had their fund money embezzled by their treasurer named Patsy L. LeSueur who stoled almost ninty grand that was to help build a new animal shelter.
This women just might have ruined a chance for life for the pets in the area, due to her greed. Hopefully the community can raise the money that is needed to complete their goal.

How Do We Finnish Building The Shelter?
Over in Livingston Parish, Louisiana they are trying to figure out on how to complete their nearly completed shelter. The question is do they give back the money they received from the government or do they try and raise funds in this tight budget time.
The town council has rejected all kind of funding proposals to help complete the shelter. Where is the love for our buddies in this town, I wonder if anyone on the council owns a pet?

Samson owners Julie and Ray Woods of Wyberton, Lincolnshire are seeking help to pay for surgery on a ruptured cruciate ligament on their six foot six inch Great Dane.
Julie and Ray are just appealing to anybody who can help pay for Samson’s surgery so that they don’t have to put the dog down. This is real sad to read about families that are unable to save their best friend.
