So You Want To Buy A Dog On The Internet Do You

Well there is one less internet dog dealer out there named Gina De’Lynn Price who owned the Rebel Ridge Kennels in Tennessee. Gina De’Lynn Price will be in her own cage for the next five years and eleven months for all the crimes she did while selling dogs that were genetically deformed or had all kinds of diseases on the internet.

This person was just like one of those puppy mills you read about but the buyers were unaware of what they were buying though the internet.

A Big Thanks goes out to U.S. District Judge Ronnie Greer for locking this lowlife up.

Now let’s see if she pays the six hundred plus grand back in restitution to the unknowing victims. I hope this is a good warning to anybody that wants to buy a dog on the web, you really need to go and see the dog you are about to buy. And make sure you get to look over the area and see the mother of the dog.

But you really should get a dog from a shelter first because there are so many dogs that are just looking to find a loving home and need your help.

Read the article by Matthew Lane here.

Do you remember reading an article about the former Hollywood Madam Heidi Fleiss and her porn star friend Kendra Rossi who were trying to buy a dog grooming business in Las Vegas. Well the judge has put a stop to that too. So I guess the Dirty Dogs business just might not be opening any time soon.

China Is Finally Going To Protect The Dogs

China Drafts Nation's First Animal Protection Law

The International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW - www.ifaw.org) applauds China for drafting the country's first animal welfare legislation, which would make animal abuse and cruelty a punishable offence. A draft of the Animal Protection Law which outlines the basic standards for treating all animals in different situations is published online for public comment, from a legal conference in Beijing, China.

Recently, several Chinese cities have forged ahead with dog culls citing concerns of rabies, leaving tens of thousands of dogs brutally killed. Such slaughter would be stemmed should this law be passed.

In addition to releasing the draft animal protection law, changes regarding China's Criminal Law were also suggested, making animal abuse a punishable offence.

Millions of animals suffer horribly every year from cruelty in zoos and parks, on farms, markets and the streets, in laboratories and during the process of transport and slaughter. Often ignorant about how animals can feel pain, people treat animals only as a "resource" and do the cruelest things to them. Foxes are skinned alive for their fur. Bears have open wounds in their bodies to extract their bile. Tigers, with their teeth and claws pulled out, are chained to the ground for picture-taking with tourists. Cats are boiled alive before they are eaten. Dogs are clubbed and stoned to death in the name of "rabies prevention and population control."

"This is a very significant step for China, not only for the millions of animals that suffer from abuse and cruelty, but also for the country's image as it drives for social progress and harmony." Said Grace Ge Gabriel, IFAW's Asia Regional Director, "The cruel treatment of animals not only results in the suffering of the animals, but also in the degradation of society. Imagine what it does to children to witness these brutal acts, and to grow up thinking that it is appropriate to treat another living creature this way."

The need to have legislation banning the cruel treatment of animals is increasingly felt by Chinese people. Recently, after the cruel killing of over 40,000 dogs in Hanzhong, an online poll of 63,000 people found that 89% support the drafting of anti cruelty legislation.

The draft law outlines guidelines for disease prevention and medical care for animals. It covers wildlife, farm animals, companion animals, lab animals and work animals, and stipulates welfare requirements for animals in transport and slaughter.

The draft is developed by an expert team of researchers led by Professor Chang Jiwen at China's Academy of Social Sciences, supported by animal welfare groups such as IFAW. After the public comment period, the draft law will be proposed to the National People's Congress, the legislative body of China.

Did You Thank Your Certified Veterinary Technician

National Veterinary Technician Week: October 11-17, 2009

Linking the Veterinary Healthcare Team

Alexandria, Virginia (Vocus/PRWEB ) September 28, 2009 -- Pets are important members for many families, yet they sometimes don't receive the proper care they deserve from a certified veterinary technician. Veterinary technicians are educated in the latest medical advances and skilled at working alongside veterinarians to give pets the best medical care possible. They work closely with the veterinarians, veterinary assistants, practice managers, patients, and owners to provide the essential link with all involved in the care process.

The National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America, Inc. (NAVTA) has proclaimed the third week of each October to be National Veterinary Technician Week. This annual event, being held October 11-17, 2009, recognizes veterinary technicians for their contributions in pet healthcare, as well as veterinarians, assistants, practice managers and others involved in this care. This year, Hill's Pet Nutrition, a company dedicated to helping pets reach their full potential through quality nutrition and healthcare, is sponsoring the week-long celebration.

NAVTA is a nonprofit organization that represents and promotes the veterinary technician profession. NAVTA provides direction, education, support and coordination for its members. Incorporated in 1981, NAVTA is the national organization devoted exclusively to developing and enhancing the profession of veterinary technology. Pets give us unconditional love and veterinary technicians give us peace of mind. For this reason they should be celebrated during National Veterinary Technician Week. More information about NAVTA and this special week can be found at www.navta.net.

Should The HSUS & The ASPCA Start Checking Their Members

The breeder’s home page says that they are a member of the Humane Society of the United States and members of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. So why has the Border Collie Rescue of Middle Tennessee been allowed to run such a cruel and devastating puppy mill?

The Sumner County Sheriff’s raided this puppy mill yesterday and found the unthinkable. There were one hundred dogs that were matted with fleas; some of the dogs' fur was coming off where they had scratched at the parasites. Let alone dead rats rotted on the floors.

You would think that if a breeder was able to use the names of the Humane Society of the United States and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals these groups would be checking up on these puppy mills. I guess anyone can call themselves members to these groups and not have to worry.

Yes I’m being a little hard on these groups because it is important to have these breeders live up to their names. We keep reading about these puppy mills that call themselves breeders but who is really checking them out to make sure that they are treating the dogs right.

So how many more places like this are out there just making a buck with no care for the poor animals. What we really need is a federal law to help protect all the dogs and not just some states making up a law here and there. Real guild lines are needed to be followed if you are to call yourself a breeder. Let’s put a stop to these lowlife breeders now.

I hope that Richard T. Swafford who is the Executive Director and all the other employees get a heavy fine and go to jail for what they did to these dogs.

The Launch Of The Shelter Pet Project

THE AD COUNCIL, THE HUMANE SOCIETY OF THE UNITED STATES AND MADDIE'S FUND LAUNCH FIRST NATIONAL PSA CAMPAIGN TO ENCOURAGE PET ADOPTION FROM SHELTERS

The Shelter Pet Project Marks First Ad Council Campaign to Focus on Pets

NEW YORK, September 24, 2009 /PRNewswire/ — The Advertising Council, in partnership with The Humane Society of the United States and Maddie's Fund, announced today the launch of The Shelter Pet Project, a national public service advertising (PSA) campaign, designed to encourage pet lovers throughout the country to make shelters their first choice for acquiring companion animals. The Shelter Pet Project is the first national PSA campaign to bring together the largest animal welfare organizations and many shelters across the country for one unified goal – to increase pet adoption.

There are approximately 75 million dogs and 88 million cats in American households. Presently, most people do not obtain their pets from shelters, but rather from pet stores, the Internet, friends, neighbors, breeders or other sources. According to The Humane Society of the United States and Maddie's Fund, eight million pets enter shelters and rescue groups every year, with three million of these healthy and treatable pets euthanized due to a lack of adoption.

The Shelter Pet Project aims to change the public's perception of shelter pets and encourage Americans to save a pet's life by adopting from an animal shelter or rescue group. The campaign is geared toward all Americans, including current, past and potential pet owners, but particularly those who are planning on acquiring a pet within the next year and who have not yet decided where they will get their pet from.

"By reaching a subset of the population uncertain about where they'll obtain their next dog or cat and convincing them that an animal shelter is the best source, we can end the euthanasia of homeless dogs and cats in this country," said Wayne Pacelle, President and CEO of The Humane Society of the United States. "The animal welfare cause has never had an advertising campaign with this creativity."

"The death of animals in shelters is a national tragedy—one that we'll finally be able to end thanks to this historic campaign," said Rich Avanzino, Maddie's Fund President. "We are deeply indebted to the Ad Council and Draftfcb for turning national attention to the plight of shelter animals and inspiring people to adopt."

The humorous PSAs, created pro bono by Draftfcb Chicago, aim to break down the stereotypes associated with shelter pets and make shelters and rescue groups the desired place for people to find a pet. The ads feature stories of how pets come into shelters through no fault of their own, but due to owners' issues, such as divorce, financial difficulty and ill-prepared owners. The television, radio, print, outdoor and Web ads direct audiences to visit a new comprehensive Website, www.theshelterpetproject.org, to find out more information about how to adopt a pet from a shelter. The Website also includes a "Pet Personals" section, where users are asked questions about themselves and are then matched with potential pets from a local shelter or rescue group using the Petfinder.com database.

"We are proud to join with The HSUS and Maddie's Fund on this very important campaign, the first in our 67-year history that will benefit pets," said Peggy Conlon, President & CEO of the Ad Council. "This campaign will help change the conversation about pet shelters and help Americans understand that they are a wonderful place to adopt a pet. Ultimately, our efforts will provide loving homes for healthy shelter dogs and cats throughout the country."

"This is an excellent and overdue opportunity to put our expertise to work on behalf of perfectly healthy, wonderfully friendly animals desperate for someone to care for them," said Mark Modesto, President of Draftfcb Chicago. "When our Executive Chairman Howard Draft first approached Peggy Conlon with the idea, everyone recognized that this was an unprecedented opportunity to educate a national audience on this important issue."

In addition to the new PSAs and website, The Shelter Pet Project will engage the target audiences through a series of social media strategies, including blog and online outreach, as well as social networking initiatives. The campaign will encourage advocates, shelter workers, pet lovers and all Americans to become a "fan" and take a pledge to adopt a pet on Facebook. Audiences will also have the opportunity to sign up on Twitter to receive tweets about adoptable shelter pets, and view the new PSAs through YouTube.

Facebook
Twitter
MySpace

All of the new PSAs are being distributed to more than 33,000 media outlets nationwide this week. Per the Ad Council model, the PSAs will run and air in advertising time and space that is donated by the media. Initial partnerships include a commitment from Animal Planet to air the TV PSAs on their network over the next year beginning September 24 as part of their national campaign R.O.A.R., Reach Out. Act. Respond dedicated to helping animals in need, whose principal partners include The Humane Society of the United States and Petfinder.com.

A second series of PSAs, including TV, outdoor and Web banners, were developed in collaboration with Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment and will be distributed nationwide. The PSAs, which feature the lovable characters from Disney's Santa Buddies, aim to further elevate the issue of pet adoption by engaging parents as well as their children.

The Dogs Are Making A lot Of News Today

The city of Asheville, NC have voted to ban the use of chaining dogs up outside. Thanks to the help of a group called ChainFree for pushing the issue to get the ban.

While over in Saint Paul, MN a German Shepard-Pitbull mix named Shadow had died from a virus called Parvovirus that has the animal control worrying if this highly contagious viral disease will hit other dogs in the area.

The Supreme Court will be voting on possibility a new law that protects dogs from being videoed showing them being tortured and in dog fights which are protected by the first amendment. I hope they vote yes, because there are too many dogs being abused by these groups that need to be stopped.

The Almost Heaven dog kennel owner Derbe Eckhart has pleaded guilty to two counts of animal cruelty, three counts of violating a cease-and-desist order, one count of failing to remove 216 dogs from his former kennel which should have had the name Welcome to puppy hell. Now that’s some good news for the day.

While over in Bedford, NC the Sheriffs have arrested a guy named William Travis Williams in a sting for the sale of fighting pit bulls.

And to top it off the Queensland Dog Offensive Group say’s that the wild dogs are costing them over sixty seven million dollars in damages to their livestock.
That sure sounds like a lot of hungry dogs down there.

You Weren’t Suppose To Teach My Child Dog Fighting

Photo by Cook County Sheriff's Department/CBS

The Cook County Sheriff Department in Illinois have busted a dog fighting ring that was going on in the same house that was used as a daycare center. The Sheriff’s charged Charles Sutton the home owner with felony dog fighting along with Lance Webb with felony dog fighting and Martez Andersen a felon in possession of an unsprayed or unneutered dog.

How crazy is that to have these killer dogs in their garage right next to these little kids, what could have happened is one’s worst nightmare. Thank God none of these kids came in contact with the dogs and luckily the Police were able to shut down another one of these cruel dog fighting rings.

Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart said: The dogs were in horrific condition and approximately ten children were found in the day care during the raid Tuesday, but they were not in the immediate vicinity of the dogs.

Just looking at the video is enough to make you sick.

Can Your Dog Do This

While the Military Police were competing for the Warrior Challenge the video shows a dog named Fosco who parachuted with his partner First Sergeant Christopher LaLonde during the event.

Now if that wasn’t one hell of a ride and to see Fosco get up and attack as he was trained. With two jumps on his collar I wonder how many more jumps he will make. It just goes to show you with the right training a dog can do anything.

Bil-Jac And Joel Silverman Help Celebrate National Dog Week

Put Your Paws Together for National Dog Week Joel Silverman answers the most frequent dog training and nutrition questions

National Dog Week is September 22-28. Bil-Jac and celebrity dog trainer Joel Silverman have teamed up to help pet owners and pet lovers, looking to adopt, celebrate this special week with their furry friends.

On tour for his new book What Color is Your Dog? Silverman has traveled more than 5,000 miles cross country giving free training seminars at humane societies and animal shelters. Through his travels, he has been asked almost every question imaginable about man’s best friend and here, he shares some of the most common and important questions to consider when training your best friend, or thinking of adopting a new addition to the family.

Q: What steps should a family take to pick the right pet for their family, and also to prepare for the arrival of the new pup?
A: Realize that with this decision comes a 15-year commitment to love and care for this pet. Really ask yourself if your family is ready. If you have two children in diapers and both parents are working, now may not be the best time for a new addition. Wait a few years. The chemistry between the family and the pet is very important. Spend some time interacting with the animal and determine if it is a good fit for your family.

Q: After adopting a new pup, when should the owner begin training him?
A: Build a positive relationship with your dog prior to training. The mistake people make is that they try to build this relationship as they’re training their dog. That’s one thing that I really disagree with. I think it’s important to build a relationship prior, and become the animal’s friend. You should take 4-7 days just to get to know the dog.

Q: How should dog lovers utilize treats and other rewards in their training process?
A: Treats are a great way to train good behavior in your pet. I would train a puppy using both treats and praise, but slowly decrease the treats and add more praise. This way you are going from 75 percent treats and 25 percent praise to eventually 90 percent praise and 10 percent treats. Treats are the greatest tool to use. I use Bil-Jac treats as they offer a variety of sizes and flavors perfect for training purposes. I have used Bil-Jac treats for 20 years and they fully support my mission to decrease the number of animals in animal shelters through adoption.

Q: How long does it take for a dog to develop a level of trust and understanding with their owners?
A: It just takes time. Some dogs may take 2-4 weeks to have a noticeable change. The first step in training any animal is to establish a friendship with them. Find out what they like and don’t like. Then, spend the next few weeks really developing a relationship with him and making sure that he understands you are there to help and nurture him. Through this step you will establish trust with the dog. This trust lets him know that you are there to protect and guide him. You do not want to establish a dominate leader role right from the start as this could set you up to fail with any dog. If you have a truly aggressive dog that will bite, then I recommend getting a professional to help you train him.

Q: Can you really teach an old dog new tricks?
A: Of course you can! All dogs have the ability and desire to learn, whether they are a pure bred dog or a mutt.

Q: Dogs have a tendency to beg for people food. How can pet lovers keep their dogs begging at bay?
A: You should never reward your dog for begging. Feeding your dog scraps from the table is rewarding the begging behavior and your dog is more inclined to do it in the future, because he thinks it's alright to beg. As an added precaution, both chocolate and onions are toxic and you should avoid giving your dog anything with one of these two ingredients in it.

Q: What are some of the benefits of kids having pets?
A: It is absolutely essential for a child to grow up with a pet. It gives children the opportunity to care for something. All the responsibility of feeding, walking and loving a pet translates into children being caring with other children. It also teaches them to treat the animal how they want to be treated. Ask your kids to put themselves in the place of their pet. Ask them how they feel when they are loved; how they feel when they are disrespected. Your dog feels all these things too. This becomes a very real way of teaching children the golden rule.

Q: What is your favorite breed?
A: I think a good family pet is a mutt, I really do. There are lots of wonderful pure bred options as well. There are so many puppies and adult pets looking for a home. I think every person looking to adopt should visit a shelter first. Joel Silverman is the author of predicted best-seller What Color is Your Dog? and host of Animal Planet’s Good Dog U. For over 25 years, Silverman has worked behind the scenes training animals for movies, TV shows and commercials. He has appeared on national programs such as Live with Regis and Kathie Lee, CNN, MSNBC and FOX News, along with hundreds of local morning news programs. Silverman has offered advice on pet care and training based on his lifetime commitment to the welfare of animals and their special place in our lives. Silverman is currently on a 100 city book tour for What Color is Your Dog? For more information about Bil-Jac and tips from Joel Silverman, visit www.bil-jac.com or www.companionsforlife.net. 3 Little Kids Wanted By The SPCA For Killing A Puppy

This article was so upsetting to read about a little puppy that was thrown in the air and kicked by three little kids with one of them being only three years old. It’s bad enough to read about dogs being abused but when you read what these three little kids did it just blows you away. Yes my first thought is: What kind of parents do these kids have and what would make these kids do something like this. Are we not teaching are kids right, when they kill a little puppy.

Yes I Know This Is A Dog Blog, But I Had To Post This

There is an animal shelter down in Texas called the Humane Society of Montgomery County that is about to kill all the cats and kittens that are left in their shelter today. Just because they are closing their doors forever doesn't give them the right to kill these animals, dose it?

I guess the word Humane Society doesn't mean anything either to them. They all should be charged even if they kill one of these poor defenseless animals.

Our We Poisoning Our Pets With Pet Products?

I can’t believe I missed this product report that tested all kinds of pet items along with consumer items that reveals the lead, arsenic, mercury and other hazardous chemicals that are in these items.

Thanks to Denise Whitaker’s article I was able to find a link to the main site.

Here is a press release from Healthy Stuff

New Database on Toxic Chemicals in Everyday Products Reveals
Lead, Arsenic, PVC, & Hazardous Flame Retardants
in School Supplies, Pet Products, Cars, and More
HealthyStuff.org Urges Government and Manufacturers
to Phase Out the Most Hazardous Substances Immediately
New Efforts to Reform the Toxic Substances
Control Act (TSCA) Expected This Congressional Session

(September 16, 2009 - Ann Arbor, MI) A nonprofit environmental research organization released results today on over 900 common products tested for toxic chemicals including lead, cadmium, mercury, bromine, chlorine (PVC) and arsenic. Using an XRF analyzer, researchers at the Ecology Center analyzed the ingredients of pet products, cars, women's handbags, children's car seats and more, creating the largest database yet of independent tests of toxic chemicals in consumer goods.

The results can be found on the user-friendly website: www.HealthyStuff.org. Visitors can look up products by manufacturer, brand, or product type and easily generate lists of highly rated and poorly rated products.

HealthyStuff.org tested for chemicals based on their toxicity, persistence and tendency to build up in people and the environment. Such chemicals have been linked to reproductive problems, developmental and learning disabilities, liver toxicity and cancer.

"The more we test, the more we find that the presence of toxic chemicals is widespread in everyday consumer products," said Jeff Gearhart, Research Director at the Ecology Center, who created the site. "It should not be the responsibility of public health advocates to test these products. Product manufacturers and legislators must take the lead and replace dangerous substances with safe alternatives."

For the past several years the Ecology Center has spearheaded groundbreaking research on toxic chemicals in toys, cars and children's car seats at HealthyToys.org and HealthyCar.org. HealthyStuff.org is a compilation of all of these findings and more.

New Key Findings From HealthyStuff.org:

* Pet Products – HealthyStuff.org tested over 400 pet products, including beds, chew toys, collars and leashes. Since there are no government standards for hazardous chemicals in pet products, it is not surprising that alarming levels of toxic chemicals were found. One quarter of all pet products had detectable levels of lead, including seven percent with levels higher than 300 ppm – the current Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) standard for lead in children's products.

* Automobiles – HealthyStuff.org tested nearly 700 new and used vehicles, from 1980 to 2010 model year vehicles. The US-made Pontiac G5 and Chevy Cobalt rated best overall 2009 vehicles. Levels of some chemicals found in vehicles are 5-10 times higher than in homes or offices. Since the average American spends more than 1.5 hours in their car every day, this can be a major source of toxic chemical exposure.

* Children's Car Seats – Infant and child car seats contain chemical additives that can have adverse health effects on babies and young children. Over half (58%) of car seats contain one or more hazardous chemicals, including PVC, BFRs and heavy metals. Three examples of car seats that had none of the chemicals tested for are: Baby Trend Flex-Loc; the Graco Nautilus 3-in-1 Car Seat; and the Graco Turbo Booster. Despite the toxic chemicals, it is vital to use a car seat for your child because they do save lives.

* Back-to-School Products – HealthyStuff.org screened over 60 common back-to-school supplies, including backpacks, pencil cases, binders and lunchboxes. Far too many of these supplies are made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and 22% contained detectable levels of lead. Overall nearly 90% of back-to-school supplies contained one or more chemicals of concern.

* Women's Handbags – HealthyStuff.org tested over 100 women's handbags and detected lead in over 75% of the bags analyzed. Sixty-four percent (64%) of the bags contained lead over 300 ppm – the CPSC limit for lead in children's products. Over half of the handbags contain more than 1,000 ppm lead.

Reforming the Toxic Substances Control Act

In response to increasing consumer demand for safer products, Senator Frank Lautenberg and Representative Bobby Rush are expected to introduce a new bill this Congressional session to reform the outdated Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) – the current federal law for regulating chemicals. These reforms would phase out the most dangerous chemicals from the manufacturing process; require industry to take responsibility for the safety of their products; and use the best science to protect vulnerable groups. To date the EPA has required testing on only about 200 of the more than 80,000 chemicals that have been on the market since the law was passed 33 years ago.

"A Made in the USA label should be a guarantee, not a warning," said Charlotte Brody, National Field Director for Safer Chemicals, Healthy Families, a coalition working toward toxic chemical policy reform. "This database of products is further proof that our system of testing and regulating toxic chemicals is broken. We have an opportunity to reform federal law this year and start putting common sense limits on harmful chemicals to protect the health of Americans."

"HealthyStuff.org is an invaluable resource for busy parents who are concerned about toxic chemicals in children's products," said Mom's Rising President Joan Blades. "But it shouldn't be up to parents to look up every single item to find out if toxic chemicals are used. We need reform of the Toxic Substances Control Act now."

BBC Convicts Mom & 2 Others For Dog Fighting

The RSPCA not only breaks one of the largest dog fighting rings they now have the convictions of a mother of three named Claire Parker from Lincolnshire along with Mohammed Faroog who is from Birmingham. There was also an unnamed seventeen year old that will be sentenced too.

When you watch the video showing the poor dogs fighting it just turns your stomach. I would like to know who the other people were that were shown on the video because they should have been charged too.

RSPCA Chief Inspector Ian Briggs said: Dog fighting is a barbaric and cruel so called sport which belongs in the Dark Ages and horrific suffering is caused to the dogs involved. Those that continue to pursue this activity should understand that the RSPCA and the police will continue to bring those responsible before the courts.

K-9 Cart Comes Out With A New Dog Wheelchair

K-9 Cart East Introduces the Lightest Fully Adjustable Dog Wheelchair for Small Handicapped Pets

K-9 Cart Company East announces the release of their new ultra lightweight dog wheelchair for small dogs, cats, and other disabled pets making it even easier to get back their mobility.

Oxford, MD (PRWEB) September 15, 2009 -- K-9 Cart Company East introduces a new ultra lightweight, veterinary-designed dog wheelchair weighing 1-2 lbs. that is custom-made of high tech materials for strength. K-9 Cart Company East has been designing, building, and perfecting their dog carts for 45 years and now raises the industry standard by producing the lightest, fully adjustable custom dog wheelchair. Now, small dogs and cats can become mobile in a state-of-the-art dog cart by http://www.k-9cart.com that is >20% lighter without sacrificing durability.

"Dachshunds, pugs, and other small dogs can often develop back and other orthopedic injuries using a heavy dog wheelchair", says Dr. Lincoln Parkes, CEO of http://www.k-9cart.com. "Our new dog wheelchair that weighs less than 2 lbs. allows these small pets to run, play ball, and resume normal activities easily for an extended number of years after spinal cord or other injuries. Cheaper imitation wheelchairs for dogs or DIY dog carts made out of PVC pipe may be lightweight but are not engineered by a veterinarian and lack the sturdiness of a K-9 Cart."

What makes K-9 Cart Company East dog wheelchairs stand out over other dog cart companies is that Dr. Parkes, a veterinary orthopedic surgeon, personally oversees the production and fitting of each and every dog cart. Using aluminum tube and high impact plastics, the dog carts are custom-made in house in Maryland for each dog. Unlike other companies, which often use off-the-shelf slings and parts made in China, the custom machining at K-9 Cart Company East allows the quick introduction of new designs and improvements.

K-9 Cart East dog wheelchairs are not "one-size-fits-all" as advertised by other dog cart companies, but made specifically for your pet. Thus, each dog cart is the lightest possible wheelchair for your pet. Yet, K-9 Cart dog carts are fully adjustable in length, width, and height to allow fine tuning of the fit. Despite this personalized attention to each dog wheelchair, most dog carts are shipped within 1-3 business days!

This new patented ultra lightweight design from K-9 Cart Company East introduces an enhanced, lightweight frame that reduces the weight of extra small to small dog cart for dogs weighing under 25 lbs. by 20% to well under 1-2 lbs for most pets. That's like the weight of 3-6 cell phones maximum for an entire wheelchair! EVA foam-filled tires that will never go flat help keep the cart light but allow the dog to maneuver over a variety of terrains including outdoor hiking trails.

Unlike other dog wheelchairs on the market, these dog carts are available with a detachable leg sling for easy entry into the cart or can be used alone as a handheld sling. This makes entry and exit from their dog cart simple; there is no cumbersome harnesses needed, which make it difficult to get your pet in or out of other types of dog carts.

Dogs aren't the only pet who will benefit from a ultra lightweight dog cart made by K-9 Cart Company East. Cats, rabbits, and ferrets will also profit from a strong yet lightweight wheelchair.

For additional information on the new ultra lightweight K-9 Cart Company East dog wheelchair, visit http://www.k-9cart.com or call 1-866-K9-CARTS (1-866-592-2787). The new extra small and small dog carts are available starting September 15, 2009.

About K-9 Cart Company East:

At K-9 Cart Company East, Dr. Parkes, now retired from veterinary surgery, still tends to the daily ever changing challenges presented by each disabled animal. Our goal at K-9 Cart Company East will always be to provide the best mobility alternative for your pet. Our professional background in veterinary medicine and cart designing of 45 years provides an unmatched opportunity to serve both the mobility needs and medical advice for your disabled best friend.

Send Pet-Friendly Greetings

Bond with adorable animal eCards at Card Boiled(TM)!

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., Sept.14 /PRNewswire/ -- Some studies have suggested that owning a pet can have a profound effect on your health, including lowering blood pressure and cholesterol and alleviating loneliness. At the very least, it's an undeniable fact that pets bring incredible happiness into people's lives... even when they're not real. After all, there just wasn't a better "Simpsons" Christmas than when Homer came home with Santa's Little Helper as a family gift. The star of "Frazier" was always that adorable Jack Russell, Eddie. Heck, "Friends" even got us to fall in love with Ross's monkey, Marcel.

When it comes to great gestures, of course, nothing can compare with giving the gift of a pet. It's just a classic move! But in real life, the average day-to-day sentiment calls for something more subtle and practical. Picking out pet-friendly greetings from free eCard web sites such as Cardboiled.com is a perfect way to elicit a heartfelt "Awwwww" and bring a bit of adorable animal joy into someone's life... without risking the allergies and accident clean-up.

When someone's absence is making you doggone sad, Miss You Puppy will get the message across. They call it a "cat nap," but the Weekend Puppy is a sweet way to wish someone a relaxing weekend. And that special someone won't be able to help but be tickled by something as sweet as Puppy Love.

Mix things up with a Hamster Lunch invite. Give a little love by sending kissing fish Smooches. And the lulz totally abound with Silly Kitty Birthday!

You can even get a little exotic with an atypical animated pet! Your loved one will know how much you depend on them when they see the pacing pitter-patter of the Lost Without You Penguin. You can share the smile someone brings to your face with Happy Pig. And Rock Owl is a hoot of a way to let someone know they're simply awesome

Of course, Card Boiled.com(TM) allows you to upload pictures of your own pets to make really personalized e-cards to send to friends and family, too! Add animal-oriented borders and graphics as well as your own message to that shot of a familiar furry face.

And best of all, sending any kind of pet card to show someone you care will leave you feeling absolutely warm and fuzzy inside!

Cartoon Network Donates $10,000 On Behalf Of Cesar Millan & Scooby Doo

Cesar Millan and Scooby Doo Celebrate Birthdays with Special at East Valley Animal Shelter

Happy 40th! Happy Home!

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 14 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Cesar Millan and Scooby-Doo have turned 40! The world renowned dog behavior specialist and beloved iconic cartoon character celebrated turning 40 together at their very own birthday bash Tuesday at the East Valley Animal Shelter in Van Nuys, Calif. Participating in the festivities were some of Cesar and Scooby's favorite dogs available for adoption at the shelter, and Los Angeles City Councilman Tony Cardenas.

In honor of Cesar and Scooby's 40th birthday, Cartoon Network donated $10,000 to the Cesar and Ilusion Millan Foundation, supporting the foundation's efforts to increase dog adoptions. The Millan Foundation will sponsor "Happy 40th, Happy Home" at L.A.'s East Valley Animal Shelter in Van Nuys. Two dogs can be adopted for the price of one dog, thanks to Cartoon Network's generous donation.

"I'm so happy to have celebrated my 40th birthday with an icon like Scooby-Doo. And I'm thrilled to use this celebratory moment to promote the importance of giving more dogs a second chance at a forever home," said Cesar Millan. "There are many benefits to adopting two dogs together. As pack animals, dogs benefit from social interaction with their own kind, and they can keep each other company while you are at work for the day," says Cesar.

"The Millan Foundation is truly committed to helping Los Angeles reach a no-kill policy in our city animal shelters," said Councilman Tony Cardenas. "Cesar and Ilusion have continued to support solutions to the stray animal crisis. Their generous donation to the East Valley Animal Care Center is another example of their dedication to animal compassion and curbing the number of dogs and cats euthanized every year."

Currently, there are thousands of animals waiting to be adopted throughout the L.A. Animal Services six shelters. This special promotion will continue until there are 40 successful second adoptions at the East Valley Shelter. For more information, visit www.laanimalservices.com.

Dog behavior specialist Cesar Millan is best known for his hit television series Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan on National Geographic Channel. The Cesar and Ilusion Millan Foundation promotes the adoption of abused and abandoned dogs at shelters and rescue organizations. The foundation also provides direct funding for spaying and neutering programs and the humane education of children of all ages. For more information, visit MillanFoundation.org.

Oregon Puts Out State Warning To Stay Out Of The Water

Photo’s by katu

The State of Oregon has put out a warning to stay out of the water due to lakes and rivers having blue green algae that has killed one dog and maybe three other dogs.

Dog will have symptoms of vomiting, diarrhea and seizures from having contact with this toxic water, let alone it’s not good for humans either.

Taken from DNR of Wisconsin:
Blue-green algae, also known as Cyanobacteria, are a group of photosynthetic bacteria that many people refer to as "pond scum." Blue-green algae are most often blue-green in color, but can also be blue, green, reddish-purple, or brown. Blue-green algae generally grow in lakes, ponds, and slow-moving streams when the water is warm and enriched with nutrients like phosphorus or nitrogen.

Just looking at the water is enough to make you sick, the problem is dogs don’t know better. So we need to watch our dogs when they are out running near a lake or river to be sure it’s safe.

NC Cops Find More Then They Were Looking For: 51 Pit Bulls Used For Fighting

When the Onslow County Sheriff’s went to raid Lethen Delstonio Pollock's home they found more than they were looking for. The Onslow County Sheriffs found fifty one pit bulls that were used for dog fighting.

Capt. Jon Lewis of the Onslow County Sheriff’s department said: It looked like a pig pen and smelled like a zoo, the drug bust quickly became overshadowed by the conditions of the pit bulls. Adding that all the animals had to drink was nasty, dirty mud water.

I hope that new charges get added to Lethen for using his dogs for fighting, I also wonder who the owners are for some of these dogs. Just maybe this might open up a can of worms and lead to more of these dog owners being arrested..

What a heart breaking video of these poor dogs.

Want-A-Be Dog Breeder Has 91 Dogs Seized In GA

How many times have we read about these so called dog breeders that keep getting shut down, this time it was a so called breeder Sue Ann Kelly from Newnan, GA had ninety one dogs taken away by the Atlanta Humane Society.

The poor dogs were so neglected that some of them had conjunctivitis, eye infections and other medical conditions. Let alone living in extremely unacceptable conditions that shows how neglected these poor dogs were treated.

Hopefully these dogs will find a good home and the home owner Sue Ann Kelly will be charged to the fullest for what she did to these dogs and not just a slap on the wrist.

You Paid 582 Grand For A Dog

How many times have we read about people that are unable to afford to even keep their dog let alone have the money to buy one. Just think of all the bills that you have by owning a dog like dog food, vet bills and we can’t forget their toys.

So when I read this article that a women named Mrs. Wang from China paid five hundred and eighty two grand for a black Tibetan Mastiff it just blew me away. It just goes to show that people with money don’t care about any homeless dogs they just go out and pay some outrages price for a dog.

So now the dog named Yangtze River Number Two is being called the most expensive dog in the world. I wonder how many dogs that kind of money could have saved in these times of needs.

Sorry Kid You And Your Dog Aren’t Allowed In School

Ok dog trainers what do you make of this article about a little kid named Anthony Spataro who tried to go to school with his dog named Dash who is supposed to be trained to detect Anthony’s glucose levels.

Apparently Jerilynne Fierstein from the Paideia school in Yonkers, NY said: The puppy is not a service dog under the existing service animals standards and guidelines. Dash is too young to have received the necessary training to detect glucose levels.

Well I’m no dog expert so I’m unable to say if this dog is trained right or not but what gets me is that this women says the dog is too young to be trained. So tell me how old dose a dog need to be before you can say it’s trained to perform its job?

I feel bad for the kid who was only trying to go to school with his companion by his side.

In 8 Years The Veterans Administration Has Only Given Out 2 Service Dogs?

This is unbelievable to read an article like this, you would have thought that all these years our brothers and sisters that helped protect our country would have had no problem receiving a service dog.

Neil Eckrich the director of the canine program said: Although the canine program's Web site touts that it routinely gives veterans service dogs, only two dogs have been paired with veterans since Congress authorized the program in 2001.

It just shows that the government doesn’t know how to handle anything, when it comes to helping our soldiers. The article explains how William Callahan had to give up on hope of getting a service dog after four years and found his own dog from a nonprofit group.

So what is a service dog

A service dog is a type of assistance dog, specifically trained to help people who have disabilities other than visual or hearing impairment, or medical response dogs. Service dogs do not have to have pedigrees: desirable character traits, good conformation, and good health are more important. Service dogs are sometimes trained and bred by private organizations. In other cases, a disabled handler may train their own dog with or without the aid of a private dog trainer. It may be called a "service dog" or an "assistance dog."
The Americans with Disabilities Act (1990) defines "service dog" under its broader definition of "service animal". "Service Animal" (ADA Subsection 36.104): "Any guide dog, signal dog, or other animal that is individually trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of an individual with a disability, including, but not limited to, guiding people with impaired vision, alerting people with impaired hearing to intruders or sounds, providing minimal protection or rescue work, pulling a wheelchair, or fetching dropped items."

Shirley MacLaine To Sell Items To Help Homeless Dogs

The Santa Fe Animal Shelter & Humane Society is getting some help from Shirley MacLaine to hope to sell some of her clothing and more in a rummage sale to be held on Sept. 11 at the Zoe & Guido's Pet Boutique, 1441-C Paseo de Peralta, NM.

Shirley MacLaine said: If there's one thing I've learned about this recession, is that there's a lot of things I don't need. I've given a lot of things away, and I thought, why not to the local shelter? It really moves me.

So if you happen to make it to the rummage sale you just might be able to get a jacket she wore on the set of 1996's Evening Star with Jack Nicholson. Another jacket kept her warm while working with Nicolas Cage in 1994's Guarding Tess. Or how about the black full-length coat that MacLaine wore to one of Elizabeth Taylor's fundraisers for the American Foundation of AIDS Research in the 1990s.

With a sale like this hopefully the animal shelter will be able to run their business a little longer and be able to care for more homeless animals.

Are We Poisoning Are Pets

Stop Poisoning Your Pets With Spot Drop Treatments Cedar Oil Industries Has An All Natural Alternative

Stop Poisoning Your Pets With Spot Drop Treatments Cedar Oil Industries Has An All Natural Alternative. Animal Wellness Magazine recently released an article naming Cedar Oil Industries products as No Toxic Chemicals Rated #1 Bio insect control products. These products have been tested at the request of the U.S.D.A. by Iowa st. U. and tested by ICR International Labs with 100% mortality.

San Antonio TX, (PRWEB) September 3, 2009 -- Cedar Oil Industries Warns That Pesticides Are Threaten the Health of Children, Families, Pet's & The Planet.

Revolutionary new Line of 100% all Natural Insect Control Products for homes and pets are Disrupting the Chemical Pesticide industry forever. No longer is it Prudent or Politically correct to spray chemicals around people or pets. According to an article from The Whole Dog Journal published in 2002 we must beware of Spot-On Pesticides such as Frontline, Zodiac, Defend, Bio Spot, Adams and Advantage trigger which can cause adverse reactions in dogs and cats, shorten life spans, cause terminal illness, and premature death. Americans are becoming passionate about children, pets, neighborhoods, waterways and the environment as they become increasingly aware of the Toxic chemicals the pest control industry has sprayed around homes and schools plus the One-Spot Drop travesty that we put on animals, Americans will begin to search out new and innovative alternatives. These revolutionary all natural products will reverse the public mind set, and change the complexion of the insect control industry worldwide. "The theory of using lethal toxins delivered through the animal's bloodstream is absurd. This practice is just wrong and is neither competent nor professional in nature. Contrary to a belief, products marketed under the guise of Pet Med's are far removed from that of a bona fide medication.

Cedar Oil Industries A World leader in Cedar Oil distribution for the Pest Control and Animal Health Industries announced the availability of its recent launching of there new Bio formulations Dr. Ben's old fashion insect control for personal protection and pets. The other formulation Natures DeFender for out door treatments around homes, businesses, agricultural, bushes and flower gardens. These products will revolutionize the way the world performs insect control. This unique product has been referred to as the most advanced BIO substance ever developed for insect control. Recent tests conducted by Iowa State University at the request of the U.S.D.A. and ICR international labs confirm an Insect Kill rate that far exceeded our initial expectations on fleas and bed bugs. We are experiencing 100 % mortality in fleas, ticks, bed bugs, lice and mites; those parasites that continually plague people, our domestic mammals, dogs and cats, and an array of farm, equine and other live-stocks.

Cedar Oil Industries is dedicated to protecting children families and their pets from the serious health consequences of pesticides. Our company works to reduce pesticide use and promote safe effective all organic alternatives. At the center of our efforts is the Cedar Oil Formulations, a proven method that emphasizes simple, inexpensive pest control practices that cause the least harm to people, pets and the planet. Robert Amarine the man behind the marketing of these products has done his work, and with his vision and foresight, he believes every home in America will have a Cedar Oil based product in the near future. These organic products will change the Toxic chemical insect control industry forever. As a matter of fact Robert said "these products will go down in history as the best insect control products ever brought to the market. Period!". These products work on all non-beneficial insects, including heat seeking venomous snakes, scorpions, nemetoedes, ants, roaches and numerous other insects.

Our Challenge:
Changing the Way the Public Thinks About Toxic Pest Control one home at a time…
Insects are an old problem that still grabs headlines because traditional pest control methods haven't solved it and never will. Studies show that less than one percent of pesticides actually reach the intended target (the remainder has many unintended recipients including people and wildlife), and insects have developed a resistance to chemicals.

The Cedar Oil protection plan focuses on prevention and methods that cause the least harm to people pets and the environment. The Cedar Oil Solution focuses on removing the cause of insects in your home by building a barrier of entry around your property line. This Cedar Oil Solution doesn't necessarily kill the insects but makes it uncomfortable for them to re-enter your property. Our protection plan also focuses on the second generation of insects, the eggs & larvae. Cedar Oil is one of the only known substances to man that will kill the bed bug, mosquito and flea eggs. This process is achieved by allowing the Cedar Oil to dehydrate the eggs and larvae, thus eliminating the second generation of insects.

Pesticides have been linked to cancer, birth defects, neurological, behavioral, reproductive, hormonal, and immune system disorders.

According to an investigative news story from NBC Los Angeles - This serious threat to human health and pet health will persist until we learn to safely deal with insects.

Dog Gets A Ticket For Waiting

Yes you read this right a dog in Darwin City in Australia was given a ticket when his owner left the dog tied up while see went shopping. Can you imagine a dog getting a ticket, what’s he suppose to do go to court and pay the fine. Maybe he can use his dog bones as payment or something; I can only guess that these two inspectors are going to be the laughing stock of the town for this dumb stunt.

* July 2008 - Sugar the Jack Russell terrier (Ocean Springs, Miss.). In Sugar's haste to eat a wild turtle--shell and all--a small piece of shell became wedged in her nasal cavity and eventually required surgical removal.

* August 2008 - Crawford the Brittany spaniel (Camp Hill, Pa.). The gel inserts of an ingested bra proved mildly toxic to this curious canine. Fortunately, the bra passed, as did his indigestion, in about a week.

* September 2008 - Rider the Belgian sheepdog (Ridgefield, Wash.). Rider went on a wild squirrel chase, but his speed was no match for the squirrel's fancy footwork and, when the squirrel dashed up a nearby tree, Rider ran head first into a decorative wheelbarrow.

* October 2008 - Becca the Labrador retriever (Greenwood Village, Colo.). Dogs frequently ingest socks, but Becca possesses the rare distinction of ingesting the same sock twice.

* November 2008 - Jean Pierre the French bulldog (Ontario, Calif.). Veterinarians were puzzled by a lump on Jean Pierre's side. An exploratory surgery revealed that what was initially thought to be a bug bite or cancerous growth was actually a migrating corndog stick.

* December 2008 - Lulu the English bulldog (Warson Woods, Mo.). After being caught eating a pacifier, Lulu was brought to the veterinarian for an X-ray. That X-ray resulted in a surgery to remove 15 pacifiers--and various other objects--ingested over the course of six months.

* January 2009 - Marley the Labrador retriever (Holiday, Fla.). Marley's owner was trying to clear the beach of sea urchins when Marley, true to her retriever nature, ran to fetch one of the poisonous creatures. She spent the next couple hours regretting the decision.

* February 2009 - Rincon the German shorthaired pointer (Tucson, Ariz.). Rincon was enjoying a hike with his owner when he encountered a family of particularly fierce javelinas. An attack from the fearless, pig-like animals resulted in an emergency room visit and several stitches.

* March 2009 - Quincy the Labrador retriever (Montpelier, Vt.). A bucket of minnows--bait for an ice-fishing trip--piqued the interest of this young Labrador, but when Quincy stuck his snout in for a sniff, he managed to inhale a three-pronged fishhook.

* April 2009 - Ranger the Border collie (Flagstaff, Ariz.). Ranger's zeal to practice cattle herding led him crashing full-speed into a cow's back legs. Ranger was kind enough to break the cow's fall and, fortunately, didn't break anything else.

* May 2009 - Toby the spaniel mix (Omaha, Neb.). Toby's chew toy of choice, a round bone left over from a roast, somehow managed to slip over his lower jaw. Though many attempts were made to remove the bone intact, treatment eventually included anesthesia and a hacksaw.

* June 2009 - Scooter the Siamese (San Clemente, Calif.). While Scooter was being prepped for an MRI, a veterinary technician discovered the unlikely cause of her seizures: a needle, with thread still attached, which had been stuck in the back of Scooter's tongue for several weeks and pierced an area of her brain. Once the needle was removed, Scooter was back to normal in no time.

"Our intent with the Hambone Award is to let pet owners know just how unexpected the unexpected can be," said Dr. Carol McConnell, vice president and chief veterinary medical officer for VPI. "We frequently hear pet owners say that they aren't worried about the cost of veterinary care because their pet is healthy. Unfortunately, we also hear them say that they never thought their pet would get a turtle shell stuck in her nose, sneak into a refrigerator, fetch a poisonous sea urchin, or end up under a cow. Some things are impossible to predict, so we make it possible to insure."
