Pet Lovers Took Only 10 Days to Connect Struggling U.S. Shelters with Hartz $1,000,000 Donation
The overwhelming response of concerned consumers to Hartz call-to-action is an eloquent sign that pet lovers from all across America are eager to help local shelters. According to Hartz, it's time to seize the moment, time for pet lovers and companies involved with animals to turn concern into actions, and do more to make a difference.
Just over ten days ago, Hartz reached out to pet lovers around the country to nominate local animal shelters who could benefit from a free shipment of 2,000 everyday pet supplies donated by Hartz. The response was overwhelming. No sooner had the announcement gone out that Hartz was looking for shelters in need, than consumer nominations came pouring in and, by the time Hartz ships supplies to all the shelters that were nominated in the first 10 days, Hartz will have shipped out the final $1,000,000-plus worth of pet supplies to reach the $3,000,000 goal.
In July, Hartz Shelter Donation Program was launched, pledging to ship up to $3,000,000 of Hartz pet supplies to animal shelters and food banks in the U.S. and Canada, to help them survive the tough economy. By end November, $1,623,138 worth had been shipped. That’s when Hartz decided to involve consumers, and empower them to help shelters in their communities by connecting them with the Shelter Donations Program.
Hartz Shelter Heroes to be featured on Hartz website.
As inspiration to other pet lovers in the community to make a difference, Hartz will feature their Shelter Heroes and the shelters they helped.
In these days of overcrowded and financially challenged shelters, volunteers can make a difference.
“For pet lovers who want to do something more to help shelters during this economy, there are many wonderful animal advocacy organizations, such as the ASPCA or the Humane Society of the United States, that can guide you on how to volunteer," says Dr. Melinda Fernyhough, Hartz veterinarian. "Shelters depend on volunteers. Whether it's by walking dogs, providing affection and important socialization by playing with caged cats and dogs, working in the office or helping on fundraiser events or websites, or even cleaning out cages, volunteers can make a major contribution to the lives of these abandoned animals while they wait to be adopted."
